Department of Communication

Pitt State Logo.png

The department of communication at Pittsburg State University, became my second home and cultivated a majority of all my creative works and projects. Juggling between a student and a faculty member I had the opportunity to work with colleagues and students equally to generate creative briefs, research papers, and promotional material bringing attraction to the department. A special thank you to Kristen Livingston, Alicia Mason, Gil Cooper and Megan Westhoff for being primary influencers in my educational pathway.

"There is no Panic at this Disco" Award Celebration Event

During the spring semesters the Department of Communication hosts an annual public celebration event for all communication students and family, to award students academic success, recognize student and faculty achievements, and celebrate the graduating students taking next steps in their careers. This event is typically planned by faculty, but for the first year the event was planned by a student class that was supervised, instructed, and guided by myself. The 2023 years theme was a disco allowing attendees to show off their groovy styles. This event was coordinated, and planned by myself and co-instructor Kris Livingston, and executed by students in SP COMM 410-02. Event planning was the primary structure for this event, and everything from decorations, organization, food & drinks, script, and advertising were covered to encompass a successful event.

AstroWorld Conspiracy and Deception Research Brief

In my class, Conspiracy Theory and Deception, we were tasked to take a deception or conspiracy case study and conduct research, and provide analysis connecting to the theoretical application learned from the course. I covered the Travis Scott Festival Conspiracy as my topic for the research brief

Wayfair Scandal Research Brief

For the course Case Studies in Communication, we were tasked with conducting research on a modern case study in the business world, and provide analysis using a framework of a style with strategic communication theory. For this brief I analyzed the Wayfair Scandal using knowledge from criss communication.

Higher Education Deceptive Marketing

For one of my graduate courses, Human Communication Theory, we were instructed on conducing research and analysis on a topic of interest using human communication theory. This study will cover how the use of stealth front groups can have a variety of negative effects on an educational institutions identity. Stealth front groups have been tasked with assisting educational institutions in marketing campaigns and degree offerings to increase student recruitment. Amongst the research will include a well known communication theory called the Expectancy Violation Theory. This theory will be explained and paired with case studies outlining reactions from universities, and the public in an online context. In this qualitative and quantitative content analysis study, themes will be reviewed in public comments on landing pages created by stealth front groups and universities. This information is important to understand as this gives researchers the opportunity to review the ethical value of stealth front groups in higher education marketing.
